Please…
They hadn’t known each other for very long, but there would be a bond between the two that was impossible to put into words. Being able to feel safe with someone was something Cappy had been longing for her whole life. Those feelings would be tested from time to time as old wounds that never fully healed, would make themselves known.
Usually she would withdraw for extended periods in that spiral of shame and guilt. On one hand, she would feel as if she had deserved to feel that way, why else would she feel this way afterall? But on the other hand, even if she had someone she could trust, she wouldn’t want to subject them to her like this. Why would you want to expose someone you care about to something like this?
Cappy had felt a bit wobbly in her mood that day, spending time out at the breakwater with Pippy. She knew exactly how things would play out; that slow spiral into despair and shame as she would become increasingly quiet, trying to hide that stabbing pain she would feel in her soul. Like it always would play out. In a rare moment of clarity she decided that if it was inevitable that it was going to happen, she could at least do something. Anything.
She wraps her arms around Pippy from behind, feeling a sudden jolt of warmth spread through her. It wouldn’t remove the pain she felt, but suddenly… at least it felt manageable. Pippy puts her hand on Cappy’s grasping arms; she liked when Cappy would embrace her like this, but where Cappy would feel a sense of safety Pippy would feel a sudden shock of distress.
“Pippy… don’t go, please. I need you.”
